Commentary
The weather waxed and waned all week, and wind direction rotated round all points of the compass, and it wasn’t until late on Friday night in Europe, and not quite so late in Greenland, that the best mix of strength and direction over the days that were in it presented itself: 20kn to 25kn out of the North West. Plenty spotted it, but many, some perhaps not wanting to upset their bio-rhythms unduly, started a tad too early. Nevertheless, all those who started any time between 18:00 UTC and 03:00 the next morning beat all times that had been set up to then. The jagged edges of the multiple obstructions, ostensibly islands, on our chart of Copper Mine Bay do a fair impression of floes and icebergs, and dodging and going the right sides of them was certainly also of import for a good run.

As it happened, it was a repeat performance by the podium of our previous Timed Race on the Hauraki Gulf, but this time a more 10 seconds separated first from third. Well done once more, chaps!

Current Races:

SWR 17/18 Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague
Then we've made it to Gothenburg.
And with the experience that The North Sea can be just as rough as the Southern Pacific.
Ok, it's time for sailing our final leg to The Hague, with a little detour around the Danish city of Aarhus, a so-called "fly-by".
And beware – the North Sea can still be very tricky, so fair winds to you all.

Sail Fiji 2018
Welcome to Sail Fiji 2018.
This time there will be no RAYC IRL fleet to beat, so we have the 1144nm from New Zealand to Fiji ahead of us, in our "old" Volvo Ocean racer, the VO70v4, completely to ourselves.
The time set in 2016 was a little under 66½ hours, done by "outlaw".
We can do better this time, can't we?
