Race Leaderboard
Originally proposed by SOLer outlaw, this race is Sailonline’s tribute to the adventuring spirit of Abel Tasman, the Dutch 17th century seafaring explorer. In our modern era, despite the best endeavours of historical films and TV channels, we can have no real sense of what it must have felt like to set out across an ocean, relying on classical navigation and ancient charts, in anticipating of finding something but never knowing quite what it might be. These days, we are so familiar with our world that setting off from Tasmania to New Zealand, in Sailonline’s Steinlager II, could, but for its historical context, seem just like another 1000nm ocean race, but it represents so much more and it is fun to be reminded of this.

A fleet flying the flags of 31 nations took part in our 2019 race and our podium three are to be congratulated on their achievement for arriving first in New Zealand, despite the fleet chasing them! Nicely done, guys.
