Commentary

Just short of 21 miles, this course might have completed in under three hours in our SOTO30s, but alas for some, who like their sprints quick and fast, the winds in the Mozambique Channel are often light, as they were on this occasion. Light winds are swirling winds in WRF, and with a WX immediately after the start, no router was going to tell anybody which was the best heading away at 1600 UTC off Pointe Sazaly. rafa, though, got it very right, to establish an early lead of up to a minute or more (substantial in a sprint).

However, at the turn for the beat to the finish, bonknhoot had whittled the gap down to a server jump or two and another WX followed, which this time favoured his slightly more close-hauled course to the tack point for the finish, so that it was bonkhoot who got the gun, a mere 12 seconds (1 server jump) ahead of rafa, after 7 hours of racing, with the reliable sassy63 close behind. Well done podium and well done all who stayed the course!

Dondra to Sanya 2020
Rested and recreated after a perhaps longer than anticipated G&T-fuelled stay on the Indian sub-continent's premier holiday island, it is time to muster your OD65's crew and sail on for Sanya at the top of the South China Sea. A tricky passage of c 2500nm generally against the prevailing winds, with one or other Indonesian strait requiring careful navigational attention!
