	Hi StuArt - if you click on the blue, italic, word TIMED in the race description you will learn a bit about timed races. They are a variant on a normal race whereby you can only register once the race is live and... your first command will start you down-course. They never open prior to their start time. In fact, they usually open a good minute or two after their start time, simply to allow time for the server to "register" that the race has started. In the past there have been attempts to open registration exactly on time, but this has resulted in some early commands firing before the race start, and this had the effect of "killing" the ranking of those keen to start. SO... a timed race, in the current server format, can only open for registration once it is ready to race Hope that explains things P.S. we can probably implement a better phrase than "Registration Close" for this phase of pre-start. 	See chatroom in Grey Whale race. Registration for a timed race opens when the race opens. Something to do with timing your start, I think, because we all choose when to go. OK?

	gotit. Well I sailed quite some timed races but never realized that the login procedure is different. I am happy about every day I learn a new thing. Thanks go4it and Joanna

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
