Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals » the great historical roads

I'd liked SOL would invite us on the great nautical roads, these commercial roads which were sailed by clippers and even bigger sailboats with four or five masts. Those roads which now are becoming record roads sailed by giant multihulls.
I'm speaking about :
-road of gold : New York to San Francisco.
- road of Guano : Valparaiso to Le havre.
- road of cafe : Brasil to Le Havre.
- road of the : China to London.
- road of Discovery : Cadix - Grand Canaria - San Salvador.
(I have a preference for Valparaiso to Le Havre, because my grandfather sailed it).
These races could be done on Orange or a VOR70 or a 90' mono.

Salutmarco - all things are possible on SOL (well nearly all things!! hehehe).

Would you wish for these races to be sailed using boats traditional to the era or modern day boats appropriate to the conditions?

The "gold rush" races have been run by SOL before (New York to Panama and then Panama to San Francisco) a couple of years ago - the Orange Cat was used then.

But if its the guano road you want then just say what boat you would like used!!

:-)

I remember we used a clipper to pass Cape Horn, so Marco, there is also a clipper is SOL´s fleet if You like to be realistic
cheers
I would prefer a modern boat (as I wrote it in my post ;=) ).
Orange could be a good choice for all these routes.
The 90' mono too.
But not the mini 6.50. :+))

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!

Tasmania to Kamchatka 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. Tasmania to Kamchatka, part of our Ocean Championship and also the third leg of the ROW (Round the Old World) series. Be aware of the obstacles on the way, likely to split the fleet. It's like X:mas to X:mas, crossing the same waters, navigating the same archipelagos. This second race of OCQ2 2026 will be sailed in our revised 'version 2' Imoca 60 Foil. Race #2031
