CONGRATULATIONS GnT!!! FELICIDADES rafa!! PARABÉNS nacrr!

Well done podiers!!! This run from Mangonui has seen some excellent tactical sailing - it was almost all to play for before the Gates Harbour mark and you three have shown us what it took to win the day! The folks at Stewart Island have been preparing a warm welcome for the racers in reality and probably have no idea that their harbour is already filling up with virtual boats. The SOL Leg may be finishing, but please do spare a thought for the real boats still battling in some of the worst sailing conditions New Zealand can throw at them.

09mar12 SSANZ UPDATE: Danaide finished at 0958hrs Expedition Coppelia are around lower corner of South Island and expect to finish tomorrow. Pelagian II are not far from rounding.

08mar12 SSANZ UPDATE: Danaide is becalmed within sight of the finish - frustrating! Pelagian II and Expedition Coppelia are close to Dusky Sound. All well in light airs.

07mar12 SSANZ UPDATE:-Truxton is around the bottom of the South Island. Danaide in Dusky Sound. Pelagian II and Expedition Coppelia making good progress south. Panther have withdrawn from the race

06mar12 SSANZ UPDATE:-Surreal has finished Leg 2!! Vingalot, Sunstone and Revs close to the finish, expected within the next few hours!!

04mar12 SSANZ UPDATE:-Sunday NZ evening check.

03mar12 SSANZ UPDATE:- In addition to checking the Radio Reports (link below) remember also to keep checking crew.org.

02mar12 SSANZ UPDATE: See Radio Reports link below. Other on-the-run information is available here.

01mar12 SSANZ UPDATE:: There are some problems with trackers so tonight's (NZ local time) radio check gives the latest info (see Radio Reports link below)

The stop at Mangonui has been all too brief and it is now time to get ready for the longest of the four legs of this year's race, a run round the top of N Island to the very bottom of S Island of New Zealand.

This time SOL is sailing a new-to-SOL First 47.7SD - the polar has been modified to conform with that of Surreal the boat being sailed by Cameron Thorpe, Chairman of SSANZ, in the real race!!

Chinook Salmon - Canada to Andreanovs

A year after spawning in the upper reaches of the rivers of British Columbia, Chinook Salmon develop the age-old urge, so familiar to SOLers, to go to sea, heading for different parts of the northern Pacific Ocean. This race catches up with a particular school with an instinctive memory for the Andreanov Islands far west on the Aleutian Islands chain, as they depart the Salian Sea between Vancouver Island and the San Juans. It’s 2200nm and we’re taking the 60ft Trimaran, in the hope we can keep up!
