HERZLICHEN GLÜCKWUNSCH rumskib!!! GEFELICITEERD kroppyer!! GRATTIS number1!

This was the fifth running of this brilliant round-the-lighthouses race on Lake Superior and for the first time in this high-resolution weather environment, SOLers had the benefit of decent strength winds. Accordingly, our podium are to be congratulated for beating off their competitors and for arriving at the finish some 7hrs 11mins ahead of the best previous time. BRAVO!!

Race Report from kroppyer
I am told we sailed round the lighthouses in record time. As this is the first time I participated in this race, I wouldn't know in what conditions this race was sailed in earlier years. However, it doesn't surprise me that this was one of the faster runs. The winds were very favourable. Although at least twice the twa predictor line suggested the wind didn't want us to get near the mark, after a tack at the right time you realize the wind is shifting so that you don't have to sail directly upwind or downwind in the next leg.

As for the top 3, I've been a bit behind number1 and in front of rumskip up to Caribou Island, then things got scrambled a bit. rumskip, fast as he is, began to gain places. I got stuck in a fishing net (I did something stupid with my course and went 100 degrees the wrong way for some seconds), and dropped to 7th place. I while later, number1 accidentally tacked too soon, and lost hist first place to rumskip, who didn't let go of that first place for the rest of the race. number1, trying to get his lead back, took a risk in the next leg (to Passage Island light) but it didn't pay of. I had about the same strategy as rumskip, which brought me back to second place after Passage Island light. Little changed as we approached the finish.

I imagine the crew of our boats had a great time in the wonderful race, they maybe even took some picture of some of the lighthouses, if not all.

This race catches up with a particular school with an instinctive memory for the Andreanov Islands far west on the Aleutian Islands chain, as they depart the Salian Sea between Vancouver Island and the San Juans. It’s 2200nm and we’re taking the 60ft Trimaran, in the hope we can keep up!

Juventud TIMED Race 2026

Welcome to Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth), Cuba’s second largest island after mainland Cuba. Known as a haven for pirates, the island was the inspiration for novels “Treasure Island” and “Peter Pan”. The circa 120nm course runs clockwise around the island.

Tall Ships 2026 - Antwerpen to Stavanger


Welcome to the third of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . This third race is from Antwerpen back up the North Sea to Stavanger in Norway – another proper tall ship training adventure of circa 450nm, online again in Sailonline’s classic Clipper 240.
NOTE: Starts and Finishes in tall ships racing are always offshore to avoid conflict with shipping and shipping lanes; online and real-life may not match exactly.

Lake Ontario 300 Challenge 2026

Lake Ontario Offshore Racing (LOOR) welcomes Sailonline sailors to a second virtual version of a race in their annual series, and for the sixth year in succession the LO300. As the name implies, the LO300 is a 300nm offshore race across the length and breadth of Lake Ontario, from and back to Port Credit YC. This year, for the first time, we will be racing the 300nm circuit in Sun Fast 3200s. As usual, there is an overall prize for the SOLer who best bosses Lake Ontario over the two races hosted by Sailonline, this LO300 and the Susan Hood raced back in May, and this year also the race and the Susan Hood count towards the title of Super Buddy 2026; so, let the competition be fierce!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Sao Tomé to Tristan

The fifth race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us back south down the Atlantic from Sao Tomé on the Equator to Tristan da Cunha on the edge of the Roaring Forties. It’s 2500nm; in your path the Benguela winds and current along the south west African coast, and behind that the St Helena High stretching halfway to South America. So, mind where you go in your Volvo OD65 version 3 (based on sampled real-life race data by kroppyer)!
