During 2009 a (former) SOLer, Bgosh, set up and opened a bar n’ grill near Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA, and in January 2010 it was decided that Sailonline should run a virtual race as close as it could get to Bgosh’s place and a course was created on Lake Winnebago, with the start/finish at Oshkosh, raced in Mini 6.5s. This race developed into an annual event but in 2014 another SOLer, zowee, who races on the Lake with Neenah-Nodaway Yacht Club (NNYC) mentioned that the club was celebrating its 150th anniversary and invited Sailonline to race in celebration of this great achievement. The original start was moved to Neenah and our boat choice changed to the mighty J-80 and a new chapter in Sailonline's racing on Lake Winnebago began. This year’s race, then is the second in which Sailonline partnered with NNYC to bring water-sailing to a very frozen lake – we are hopeful that next year might see us ice-yachting our way round the course! The lake conditions are always unpredictable and so the best ever time (in a Mini) remains just over 5hrs, while the worst (also in a Mini) is more than 15hrs.

This year’s podium are to be congratulated on their finish – just a matter of moments between them and their close competitors - CONGRATULATIONS guys on a super race!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Cocos to Sagar Island

Kapil Muni, incarnation of Lord Vishnu, founder of the Samkhya school of philosophy, disturbed from his meditation, in his wrath reduced the 60,000 sons of Sagar to ashes, as they dug the earth to retrieve the sacrificial horse that Lord Indra, the king of the Gods, stole off Sagar, thus creating the Sagara (ocean). Aeons later, Bhagiratha, a descendant of Sagara, asked Ganga to cleanse the ashes of the 60,000 princes, and her resultant torrential fall from heaven created the great river and where it met the ocean, the princes’ souls were washed and raised to heaven and Gangasagar (Sagar Island) was formed. So, let us join the pilgrimages to Kapi Muni’s Temple (see above) and race 2400nm from Cocos Island deep in the Sagara thence, in rather rapid Rapido 60s.

The stage is set for the Lewmar 50, a thrilling 40nm challenge tracing the southern shores of the stunning Waiheke Island, pushing out to Tarahiki before the sprint back to Islington Bay. Expect fast legs, tactical battles, and no shortage of drama as our SOLers take on the waters in their Young 88s, lining up once again against the talented IRL members of the Young 88 Association. With the series on the line and everything still to fight for, it all comes down to this final race!

The Vineyard Race 2026

For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

Welcome to the fourth leg of our MIG series. This time we're racing the Sooty Shearwater on their migration from the breeding grounds in South America to the northern Atlantic. New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station

To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
