Commentary
This was the first TIMED race of Sailonline’s 2017 Q1 Racing Calendar. TIMED races, where you choose to make a run rather than starting as a group, can sometimes seem lonely affairs, with everyone picking an individual start time, but they frequently turn in to comradely affairs – especially if you have been lucky enough to choose an optimal time, and find yourself in the middle of stiff competition for the podium. Initially introduced to Sailonline as a bit of spontaneous weekend fun when crazy winds could be found somewhere on our planet, they have now evolved into highly technical and strongly contested events! in often when you start off, if you have found an optimal starting time, there is really tough competition to do well!

Our first TIMED podium of the year are to be congratulated on their success – with only 28s between the three of them. They all started in the same hour of the same day but quite some minutes between them. Nicely done! A great start to the 2017 Championship.

Mad Max by Balloon 2026 - Across the Outback

Mad Max Rockatansky doesn’t get to go in a balloon in any of the Legends of the Wasteland, and the Wasteland is not necessarily the Outback of Australia, but Mel Gibson and film director George Miller indubitably are… of Australia, and ballooning as reconnaissance is a main feature of the Mad Max spin-off video game, so here goes: 1500nm in a balloon from somewhere on the edge of the Outback, Goondiwindi, to cross a finish line at Fitzroy Crossing, somewhere on the edge of the Outback!
