Commentary
Sailonline was the brainchild of its two founders, one a professor of marine architecture, the other his student, who decided a simulator was needed to test the performance of boats designed in class. That was more than 10yrs ago now and with some modifications and the switching of ownership to the Sailonline community, we haven’t lost sight of our Swedish roots and our two founders and once a year celebrate the creation of our brilliantly realistic wind navsim with this race through the island-strewn Stockholm Archipelago.

Again this year was a fun, hands-on event, with race chat alive with SOLers – even some who don’t race with us that often any more! From the start it was something of a challenge to decide on which route to take and even after half an hour or so, as can be seen from this screengrab, there were several options in play:

By the time we were running for the finish, several front runners had fallen foul of “circumstances”, but even so the margin of THREE SECONDS between 1st and 3rd and a total of 11 racers finishing within the first MINUTE really goes to show how tough a competition it was this year! Congratulations to all who made it to the finish line and, in particular, to our amazing podium!

Welcome to the grand finale of this year's SSANZ Triple Series! The stage is set for the Lewmar 50, a thrilling 40nm challenge tracing the southern shores of the stunning Waiheke Island, pushing out to Tarahiki before the sprint back to Islington Bay. Expect fast legs, tactical battles, and no shortage of drama as our SOLers take on the waters in their Young 88s, lining up once again against the talented IRL members of the Young 88 Association. With the series on the line and everything still to fight for, it all comes down to this final race!

The Vineyard Race 2026


For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

Shearwater - Rio de la Plata to Irish Sea 2026

Welcome to the fourth leg of our MIG series. This time we're racing the Sooty Shearwater on their migration from the breeding grounds in South America to the northern Atlantic. New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station


To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
