Commentary
Few will disagree that the 2018 Sprint Championships started off most auspiciously with this Ouzo-fuelled race in our spanking-new Club Swan 50s through swirling high-resolution wind courtesy of our cooperation with the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Trying to find the best route through Greece’s Cyclades proved to be no sinecure as many islands lay in our path from a start SE of Naxos to a finish 90-odd nm to the northwest in the Kea Channel, and with two weather forecasts to contend with, routers were only of partial help.

So a very hearty congratulations are due to our all-Swedish podium, who all had the good sense to try to not deviate too much from the rhumb line, whilst simultaneously avoiding the many tempting BBQ-and-ouzo locations and the worst calm patches in the lees of the more mountainous islands, and particularly to Blackpearl, whose very first first place this is. Well done that man! Please, SRC, can we have some more!!

The stage is set for the Lewmar 50, a thrilling 40nm challenge tracing the southern shores of the stunning Waiheke Island, pushing out to Tarahiki before the sprint back to Islington Bay. Expect fast legs, tactical battles, and no shortage of drama as our SOLers take on the waters in their Young 88s, lining up once again against the talented IRL members of the Young 88 Association. With the series on the line and everything still to fight for, it all comes down to this final race!

The Vineyard Race 2026


For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

Welcome to the fourth leg of our MIG series. This time we're racing the Sooty Shearwater on their migration from the breeding grounds in South America to the northern Atlantic. New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station


To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
