It is autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and Sailonline will be racing the route of the gray whale’s magnificent autumn migration from the Bering Sea to Mexico. This time we will be racing the polar of our luxury superyacht Falkun. The race is already open for practice and will start on Friday, 2 November at 1900utc.

First created for Sailonline in 2010 this race celebrates the remarkable life cycle and migration route of the Gray Whale. In 2010, 2011 and 2017 we raced from Mexico up to the Bering Sea in late Spring (the mother and calf route), in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and again this year we follow the autumn swim down from the icy north to the warm and shallow breeding grounds in the lagoons off Baja California.

Although it is 18 months since we last raced north with the gray whales, the health of Earth’s oceans and their marine life remain under immediate threat, so as you race south down the W coast of N America to Mexico, please make some time to share knowledge and information about our oceans and what we as individuals can do to preserve and restore them. Abandoning single use plastic, getting involved with beach cleans, eating sustainable fish and seafood and , of course, supporting organisations that protect and defend marine life from man’s predations are all ways you can help.

The Vineyard Race 2026


For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

Welcome to the fourth leg of our MIG series. This time we're racing the Sooty Shearwater on their migration from the breeding grounds in South America to the northern Atlantic. New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station


To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
