Commentary
2019 is the second year that Sailonline has been partnered with the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in a virtual version of its Raja Muda International Regatta, this time with our direct competition, the Class 3 boats in the real race, on-screen with us.

SOLers (racers on Sailonline) flying the flags of 30 different nations took part in the race, showing the truly global participation in our race this time. With the real fleet zooming ahead of us, we could only race our hearts out, but even with tremendous performances from all, our best finishing time was 13h 9m 18s which couldn’t compete with the real Class 3s – the full real-race results can be found here. The conditions were favourable with a kind reaching departure from Klang and, while it was possible to pretty much sail direct to the finish in Pangkor, there was sufficient variability in winds that those capable of optimising their performance did well. With only 30s separating our podium from each other, with a further 18 boats finishing within the first 10 minutes, this really was a close run thing!

Our 2019 podium comes from Poland, Brazil and Finland –very well done guys for squeezing those extra seconds out of our polar. Congratulations!

The stage is set for the Lewmar 50, a thrilling 40nm challenge tracing the southern shores of the stunning Waiheke Island, pushing out to Tarahiki before the sprint back to Islington Bay. Expect fast legs, tactical battles, and no shortage of drama as our SOLers take on the waters in their Young 88s, lining up once again against the talented IRL members of the Young 88 Association. With the series on the line and everything still to fight for, it all comes down to this final race!

The Vineyard Race 2026


For the 16th consecutive year, our SOLers are invited to tackle this iconic 250nm overnighter. The classic route charges out through the sound, leaves Buzzards Bay Light to starboard, rounds Block Island to starboard, and heads home.

This year's weapon of choice is the Beneteau First 47.7. A proven performer since its 2012 SOL debut, this Farr-designed cruiser/racer excels at leading real and virtual handicap fleets. Success will demand sharp tactical navigation, so watch the polars closely to conquer the sound's shifting winds!

Shearwater - Rio de la Plata to Irish Sea 2026

Welcome to the fourth leg of our MIG series. This time we're racing the Sooty Shearwater on their migration from the breeding grounds in South America to the northern Atlantic. New Ice Age 2026 - Scott Base to Neumayer Station


To complete our DN circumnavigation of Antarctica and our 4-race ice-boat marathon series, we continue clockwise, now departing from Scott Base back to Neumayer Station. It’s about 3500nm back as well, which, as said if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you much more than five days. And remember: charts down here are unreliable – what is land and what is ice?!
