Commentary

172 virtual replica's of the Austrian world-circling SY 'Lizza Forte' were on the line for this race across the Baltic Sea on July 11, and 144 advanced in generally the right directions when the cannon fired. Your peripatetic publisher (posh prose for roving reporter) of this blog was one of the boats left behind in Stockholm, but luckily two excellent reports under the buttons above by France's knockando and Greece's adopted Zorba777 will give you a good idea of how they managed to fill the first two podium spots, narrowly pipping Brazil's batatabh into P3.

Judging by the accounts, there was west in the wind – light, moderate, gentle summer sailing weather – but hence easy enough to get wrong; so, very well done, our podium, and thank you for your reports!

Mad Max by Balloon 2026 - Across the Outback

Mad Max Rockatansky doesn’t get to go in a balloon in any of the Legends of the Wasteland, and the Wasteland is not necessarily the Outback of Australia, but Mel Gibson and film director George Miller indubitably are… of Australia, and ballooning as reconnaissance is a main feature of the Mad Max spin-off video game, so here goes: 1500nm in a balloon from somewhere on the edge of the Outback, Goondiwindi, to cross a finish line at Fitzroy Crossing, somewhere on the edge of the Outback!
