Commentary
Although Sailonline has raced frequently in the Baltic, it wasn't until 2019 that an official buddyup was agreed with the classic N European Baltic 500 yacht race. Always a tricky event with a course that is only decided pretty much last minute, due to the ever changing wind conditions in the waters of Germany/Denmark, with a real fleet sailing a mix of boats. Sailonline's boat choice worked well, so well that the organisers were very happy to pencil in another buddy-up in 2020, with the race dates being known well in advance.

2020, as will be remembered for all time, saw the declaration of a global pandemic due to a novel coronavirus disease, COVID19, and as a consequence, while governments sought to find ways to minimise death and contagion, many countries found themselves being "locked down" to varying degrees. So for a while, the Baltic 500 was only going to be a virtual event - the organisers were happy for this to be so - but with only days to spare before race start, the Danish government gave permission for the traditional course to be used and so, Sailonline, for the first time in 2020 was racing a real buddy event! So far it has been our only one.

The winds this year were relatively kind - as if rewarding everyone for being back on the water - but, of course, this meant that many more racers were in with a chance of success. The leading pack swarmed together from the start but the first night saw those on overnight DCs not all make the best of decisions, so by the time our successful podium three arrived, 3m3s separated them from each other, and only 8 boats arrived within the first 10m of the leader. Many congratulations then to our 2020 Podium! Bravo!

Roma per Tutti 2026


Sailonline are honoured and delighted to have been asked to partner an online first Roma per Tutti yacht race with organizing yacht club, Circolo Nautico Riva di Traiano . In real life, this will be the 33rd edition of this 540nm offshore race from Rome’s Riva di Traiano to the Aeolian Islands and back. Online, the race will not only be our first partnership with CN Riva di Traiano, but also the second race of our Magical Mediterranean series. A number of Mini 6.50s have been entered for the 33rd edition of the Roma per Tutti; so our own vintage Mini is also our virtual yacht of choice for this one.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara


Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

Falklands to Tasmania 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. This next race is part of our Ocean Championship as well as the ROW series. Falklands to Tasmania, is like last year's island to island. It’s one of the longer ones 6400nm, more than half way around the world (and the Antarctica). It starts the 2026 OCQ2, and will be sailed in our Steinlager 2, contrary to prior notice.
