With Leg 2 of the ESRW (Equatorial Sailonline Round the World) aka RWWW (Round the World where it is wide, Round the World the Wrong Way) or NAAH (Not around Antarctica and Home) well underway, it is high time Jawz' excellent report on Leg 1 (under the button above), extolling the merits of ij's significant innovations to the development version of the HTML client, sees the light of day. Clearly ij's great work made the race more manageable for Jawz, allowing him to compete without spending days on end behind a computer. Well done ij!

As for the race itself, well, SRC chose a rather small but racy boat for what in practice were two ocean races combined – one down the length of the Mediterranean Sea and another down the Atlantic from Gibraltar to Sao Vicente in the Cape Verdes. Not a choice to bother seasoned SOLers, but IRL one fancies it would have been a different wet and spartan matter. The Mediterranean is not an ocean, I hear you say, but its winds are complex and quite the strategic challenge to get right, and, just like the stretch to Cape Verde, required routing folk to avail of long range uncertain forecasts and take a view. As it turned out, it was the view to keep north of Crete and of Sicily (!) that proved to be a winning move and, combined with the insight to work well south along the African coast before heading west to Sao Vicente, gave a fine first victory in the six-race series to aner59. Well done aner59!

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!
