Commentary
This race was first raced as the third leg of a series of four races in the 2011 Asian Sprints which aimed to retrace the route taken by James Bond in his pursuit of the villain Scaramanga in the movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” – not raced since then, it was fun to see our Orange Cats being raced so tactically in these waters again. The world of Sailonline UI has moved on considerably since then, and the levelling of the playing field between experienced racers and those relatively new to the platform (or who prefer to sail by “Seat Of The Pants”) continues. It felt like something of a trek to the first mark, with racers having to decide on their tactics as the winds were more than a little whimsical, a fair run to the second mark again saw a wide range of options being followed but once round Senau, by which time a leading group was pulling well ahead, as was our ultimate winner, so from then on it became something of a “follow my leader” affair, despite everyone's best efforts to make it otherwise.

When this race was first run, our podium place taker, AGage, arrived in 5 days 1hr so despite all the talk of climate change (which cannot be denied) and its impact on weather, it was interesting to see our winner, WRmirekd, arriving in 5 days 1hr at the front of a fleet of 175 boats, flying the flags of 34 nations, while his close follower, GREATSKUA, took the second place, as he did in 2011! The third member of our excellent podium, all of whom arrived mere moments before the following pack, was Garagiste, happy to bag his first podium spot of 2021. Many congratulations to all who took part but, of course, top honours to our winning threesome!

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!
