Commentary
What a fun race! Sailonline’s first ever partner race with Newport Harbor Yacht Club, was the also the first outing for our new Santa Cruz 70. The real and virtual fleets stayed pretty much together, although the front-runners in the real fleet showed their legs from the start, but by the time the Sailonline SC70s started arriving in Cabo, the partying for the real fleet was well under way!

For the first couple of days the virtual fleet kept pace with the bulk of the real fleet and we would have probably stayed like that but for Neptune and the wind gods creating the most downhill of all possible conditions for the real fleet and the VO70, Pyewacket, took full advantage of this, arriving in a record corrected time of 2d 20h 50m 21s (elapsed: 1d 21h 22m 53s). It is only fair, however to compare our fleet of new virtual SC70s with the only SC70 in the real fleet, so, as Grand Illusion’s corrected time was 3d 0h 29m 35s, and our virtual winner, Chipspitter, arrived in 3d 3h 25m 31s, we did pretty well!

There was a wonderfully close finish, with RainbowChaser, having miraculously stayed in 1st place for several hours – fully mindful of the inevitability of being overtaken by a more southerly group of canny racers – ending 12th in a total group of 25 boats that arrived within 5m of the winner! A big “thank you” and “gracias” to NHYC for introducing us to such an enjoyable and intensely competitive event!

A total of 202 boats took part in this inaugural Cabo Race, flying the flags of 36 different nations, and our congratulations must go to our podium three representing GBR, POL and USA!

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!
