Commentary

97 Sun Fast 3300s showed on the line for this short race, which although it wasn't part of the Sprint Series was very much a sprint. Perhaps, as winner Vida Maldita reflects in his very excellent report under the 'silver fern' above, numbers were lower than they might have been, because another close-fought race was finishing in another semihemisphere, but really 97 is a very respectable turnout for a non-counter sprint, especially one starting at a time because of place when many SOLers should be asleep. Moreover, 97 is 97 more than our misfortunate buddies of the Short-Handed Sailing Association of New Zealand, who, once again, found themselves locked down by the Auckland authorities for fear of a COVID outbreak.

Online as ever the racing was close, and as said, in the end it was Vida Maldita who took the gun – by 10 seconds. How he eked out that lead is all explained in his and GREATSKUA's reports – two good primers in seat-of-the-pants online sailing. Parabéns ao nosso amigo!
