3 March 2022

Sailonline are delighted to announce that we will be the 2022 online partners of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club in running their 2022 Central Triangle series; three challenging races on the east coast of New Zealand that visit both the South and North Island.

Leg One has the fleet leaving Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, heading south across the notorious Cook Strait. Then onwards down the east coast of the South Island, rounding Banks Peninsula, and finishing in the beautiful Akaroa Harbour. Length approximately 190 nm.

Leg Two will be trickier than it looks. Leaving Akaroa Harbour and heading north up the east coast of the South Island, and then transiting across on to the Wairarapa Coast on the east of the North Island. The winds and currents funnelling through Cook Strait makes the transition interesting. As the fleet heads north it will encounter light patches of breeze and possibly sea breezes, as it rounds Cape Kidnappers into Hawke Bay to finish in the city of Napier. Length approximately 350 nm.

Leg Three will start from Napier and head back down the Wairarapa coast. Westerlies would make this a fast trip. Southerlies bring big swells from the southern ocean. Rounding Cape Palliser can be tricky in northerly sector winds as then can be big wind shadows. Then entering the narrow entrance to Wellington Harbour to finish back in the capital city. Length approximately 200 nm.

The starting gun for Leg One is scheduled for 02:00utc, Friday March 4, and this first race of the Triangle will open for practice at 02:00utc tomorrow, February 24.

Roma per Tutti 2026

Sailonline are honoured and delighted to have been asked to partner an online first Roma per Tutti yacht race with organizing yacht club, Circolo Nautico Riva di Traiano . In real life, this will be the 33rd edition of this 540nm offshore race from Rome’s Riva di Traiano to the Aeolian Islands and back. Online, the race will not only be our first partnership with CN Riva di Traiano, but also the second race of our Magical Mediterranean series. A number of Mini 6.50s have been entered for the 33rd edition of the Roma per Tutti; so our own vintage Mini is also our virtual yacht of choice for this one.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

Falklands to Tasmania 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. This next race is part of our Ocean Championship as well as the ROW series. Falklands to Tasmania, is like last year's island to island. It’s one of the longer ones 6400nm, more than half way around the world (and the Antarctica). It starts the 2026 OCQ2, and will be sailed in our Steinlager 2, contrary to prior notice.
