Sailonline’s 2025 Vasco da Gama Ocean Race once again delivered a masterclass in strategy, precision, and nerves of steel. Partnering with the Royal Natal Yacht Club, the virtual fleet tackled 254nm of challenging South African coastline in their powerful Farr 40s, facing shifting winds, strong currents, and no room for error.

From the gun, the competition was fierce. Italy’s Siaki sailed a perfectly executed race, securing his first-ever victory on Sailonline by just 10 seconds after an intense final leg! Pre-race preparation paid off, with Siaki spending time studying the polars to master the all-important angles—knowing that in the Farr 40, recovery through speed alone was impossible. Sticking to his plan, he positioned east of the fleet without overcommitting, covering rivals and adjusting constantly to stay ahead.

The decisive moment came on the approach to the coast, where careful positioning allowed him to extend slightly on his closest challenger, Kastor. Meanwhile, vida of Brazil and FreyjaUSA of the USA mounted exceptional late charges, making the final tacks into East London nail-biting for spectators and sailors alike!

In the end, the top three boats finished within 21 seconds of each other, a testament to the skill and determination across the fleet. Congratulations to Siaki on a brilliant and hard-fought win, and to all competitors for an unforgettable race worthy of Vasco’s legacy.

And it’s a border that matters, there’s gas here! But why worry, let’s race – 2050nm in our goo’ol’ Open 60s in between the production platforms, prowling destroyers and submarines.
