I'm with You ;-)

OK folks... the race is now set up and available for preview.

To do this, log in as the sol boat:

USERNAME: sol

and then click here

Please let me know what changes you would like to have made (if any)to race bounds or the weather system.

As for when to race... 76T you were proposing a weekend start which would mean it would have to wait a few weeks ... but... if you were OK with a early/mid-week start we could aim for next Tuesday or so?

I am so looking forward to this!! :-D
Any time should be ok, as it ends up being more like a timed raced in some ways. Probably need to check the weather window as well. The finish in Brest seemed best earlier in the season, but that may have changed, or we might need a bit more time.

Thanks for setting up the race - the polar looks perfect. Very very strange, but no surprises.

Should be hilarious/frustrating
Well unless you spot any last minute issues, I propose opening this for practice on Sunday with a view to starting it on Tuesday evening UTC-time.

As this is your race it would be lovely if you would the start countdown and starting cannon so, what time start would suit you best and I will set it up for that?

:-)
That looks like a decent start time. Wind is contrary right at the start but fills in nicely I think.

The finish needs to be placed offshore to give us any chance at getting close. For this race the line is more like the centre of a bulls-eye (anchor when you get close) and we won't be able to manoeuver to get around headlands etc.

Let me try to pick some brains over in the active races but it looks like for a Tuesday start we could move the finish up to Galway Bay in Ireland say 52N 10W?

I'll write a SOL ballooning FAQ...
Ha ! brilliant idea, i'm in !
76T - I've switched the finish to Galway Bay.

What time on Tuesday for the start please?

2000utc? later? earlier?

For anyone currently looking at the race from the SOL boat just refresh the screen and you'll see the new finish point.

Whatever you think best RC - it's a bit of a slow start, so not critical I don't think.
Well the critical issue is that you are online to do the countdown and "fire" the starting gun!! That's why I am asking about time :-D
Good thing the balloon has a cannon. 19:00 and fingers crossed for good Wx?

If we have room in the calendar it's probably a good idea to leave the race open until friday night (or sat even).

Close at midnight for an easy countdown.

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
