That sounds good!! :-)

So, what would be next steps?
It would help f you can prepare a kmz file with the coordinates for the start, any waypoints, and finish, together with a paragraph describing the race. The Race Description information will then appear with the race start info on the right hand side of the SOL Homepage.

That's pretty much it.

The full explanation of how to propose a race is in one of the "sticky" threads at the top of this Forum but probably not very visible. Here is is.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
OK
tomorrow you will get kmz file
VirtualCruise 2013 Race

The Virtual Cruise is a unique project of a group of enthusiasts of sailing education. The route leads from Fiumicino - Italy, through Sardinia and Corsica, the Balearic Islands, Malaga, Madeira, and further along Europe's west coast to Amsterdam. One of Cruise step is this race from San Sebastian to Brest. It is 325nm route, participants will use Polish cruising yacht Delphia 47. You are welcome!

Could you check if KMZ is OK?

Hiya

Yes that looks good - I have changed it slightly to include names, San Sebastian for the Start, La Vielle Lighthouse for WPT1 and Brest for the finish ... you don't need to do anything more to it!

For future reference, waypoints need to have names rather than numbers so we can find them again/use them again another time :-)

The Delphia polar is set up in the database so I will get this race prepared and post a link here when it is ready for preview (probably in a day or two).

:-)

After the race is previewed, it will be archived until it opens for pre-race practice, which is usually a couple of days before race start.

This is looking good!

Thanks a lot
I am just setting this one up and was thinking of the following phrase to be the "invitation" to go in the Race Description on the RH side.

"A group of Polish SOLers are virtually sailing round Europe and invite us to join them on their Delphia 47 for a XXXnm race across the Bay of Biscay, from San Sebastian to Brest."

Is this OK?
and now.. time for a quick preview.

To do this you will need to log in as the sol boat:

USERNAME: sol
PASSWORD: sol

and then once you have done that click here

SOL chart coordinates are a littl offset from those we find in Google Earth, so if you would like the waypoints adjusted at all, please provide the new SOL-coordinates here and I will adjust the race.

I rather like the sneaky peninsular blocking a straight run from La Vielle to Brest but you may not :-)

Let me know what you would like to do.

Once we are happy, the race will then be archived until it is opened for pre-race practice, usually a couple of days before the SOL Race start-time.
It looks great! Preview is OK.

Do you mean to put a waypoint in Baie de Douarnenez. It is good idea.
Should I change kmz file or you can add a waypoint?

Your proposition of invitation text is OK for me.

Thanks a lot!

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
