ust another sunny day in Auckland New Zealand!

Thanks RC for setting this up. Yak & I are almost ready to go.

The weather forecast is "light winds variable - might get up to 5 knots some time in the next 48 hrs.

So We expect a slow race. Must give the Easter Bunny our sea address Hope he delivers!!!

RC we will send you photos and updates as we work our way to Tauranga. But we are not expecting this to be a quick race.

The weather is fabulous! But not for sailing ha ha.

Cheers for now from the scurvy crew onboard Open Country.

Good morning!

Over cast morning in Auckland, with about 3-5 knots breeze.

Looks like we might start with our Super Light weight North Sails No.1 genoa.

We have an outgoing tide 2 knots which will help us for the first 4 hrs.

Race Leaderboard

Sailonline was back in New Zealand for the 2014 running of the classic Auckland to Tauranga Race, and for the second year in a row, was associated with the official race. Unfortunately for the real racers, the wx in Auckland was "inclement" and the start had to be delayed, but the virtual race set off at the originally scheduled time.

This is the fourth time of running this race, the second with Young 11s, and our winner this year arrived in record time - beating the previous best (also set by a Young 11 in 2011) by 4h 20m. The challenge is now set! Congratulations to all three who took our podium this time

If you want to see how the leaders or top SOLers tracks compared with yours, you can do so easily by using the comparison feature at hmm's SOL Race Data Centre

SOL is back in New Zealand again this time to run the 2015 International Yacht Paints and PIC Insurance Brokers Auckland to Tauranga Race (start time 1 April @2100 UTC = 2 April @1000 NZDT). This is the fifth time Sailonline has run this course and the third time to do so in association with the official race.

First run in 1921, this is one of New Zealand's classic races - a brief history of the race is readable here

SOLer NZL_WairuaExpress is taking part on his beautiful Beale, Open Country and you can track them via Open Country's Spidertracks tracker

For this 124nm race, Sailonline will be sailing Young 11s.

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
