The Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race is organised by the Gosford Sailing Club of New South Wales, Australia. The 2013 event is the 39th running of the event and SOL has "buddied-up" with GSC to run the event along side the real-life race.

This race is unique in that the organisers must limit the fleet to around than 20 yachts. This is due to the strict mooring restrictions in the lagoon at Lord Howe Island. Mooring depths vary as well so the fleet must cover a wide spectrum from 30 footers to maxis. A further restriction is the limit of 400 visitors to the island at any one time and this includes yacht crew as well as regular tourists. For these reasons, the 2013 fleet is comprised of just 16 yachts. They are the form yachts in their class in this season's fleet from various clubs, chosen from a long list of applicants. This year's fleet ranges from a Hick 35 to a VO70. The fleet also includes the race record holder, VO60 "Merit" and the local TP52, "Frantic". Frantic is owned and skippered by former rugby international, Mick Martin.

The race is a Category 1 passage race and the weather could be either steady trades or a low coming down from the north as the tail-end of a late season tropical cyclone.

Invitation:
Lord Howe Island is known as the last paradise and is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Pacific. It is one of just four island groups to be inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list for the global significance of its natural beauty and heritage. Located in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand, administratively it is part of the Australian state of New South Wales.
You are invited to join SOL and the Gosford Sailing Club in this race to paradise.

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!
