Board » General Discussion » "Real" DTG

Hi!

You all know how that the DTG (and therefor also to current ranking) doesn't work perfect when rounding marks if you're not really close to the mark. Infact, in several races the leader finds himself to be ranked several hundred places down just when passing a mark.

In an attempt to make that better I've made a new ranking page for the third leg of SOR and it can be found at http://sailor.raven.nu/112.html

It's brand new so it might have bugs but I think it works. The distances are slighty different that the official once but not by much.

It's currently generated every 15 minutes.

Let me know if anything weird shows up.

Poll: How cool is it?

Hmm...(12:16 Swe time) Im on 265th position on your leaderboard. 138 on SOL leaderboard. I think SOLs is more right. I have Santacalus behind me in the chart but in front of me on your leaderboard. It shows 691 Nm to finish line, but I meassure around 650.

Right, minor glitch :)

It has been fixed and now reports ranking 132 (135 official) and a couple of nm less than the official DTG.
Hi, just looked at your ranking. It's ok as long as the boats round the marks at the correct side. For example "skipper85": he is on #7xx at the official ranking, because he left Pulau We on port. You have him on #2xx.
Thanks, nice catch! :)

I have found the bug and skipper85 is now correctly calculated as 700-something :)

Thanks again.
Sorry, but i found another one:
Your calculation aims at the centre of the finish line, but that is not the shortest distance to the line. so your ranking gets a bit confused now.

ciao
Bernd

yes, and besides it calculates with the coordinates I've taken from the map which could be somewhat wrong.

This could perhaps be fixed but not right now :)

I also know that it has some weird things once ppl start to finish but that will be fixed.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
