Viva SOLers.

With my friend Jan/bonknhoot we are preparing a new Timed Race to be sailed with a new SOL boat.

Yes, a new boat.

The new boat Polar Data is in the “crunch machine”, and, for the moment, all I can say it’s a boat that all SOLers dream about.

Not only the race field but, especially the boat - if the SOL committee will be kind to accept her - will bring new and hot adrenaline for everybody.

We’ll be back as soon as the boat is on the "lifting crane".

Be well.

Why is it "lopsided?"
None so blind
A2R, I think the diagram shows twa=[0,180] in a [0,360] graph.
Good morning all.

Yes, Kroppy is correct.

The Wind data is being worked on the TWA range (0; 180) degrees and the resulting graph has the TWA = 180º on the position that’s normally used by the 360º.
With that graph disposition you have more space to distribute the curves and it’s also easier to inspect the odd points.

Dear JB,

Is this based on a real life boat, or a boat that exists only on paper?

I am just curious.
Thanks,
Antonio

Viva António.

Este barco é bem real e, em algum momento, também passou pelo papel de alguém.
Esta semana, o novo barco vai ser divulgado.

Abraço de
João

Viva Antonio.

This boat is very real and, at some point, also passed by the paper of someone.
This week, the new boat will be disclosed.

Viva all SOLers.

As promised we propose, not one, but two new races to be sailed with a new SOL boat.

First: the boat.

Wonderful! I was hoping there would be an AC72 polar available on sol, and I know other did too :)

I have two notes (for now ;)):
- The number you give contain negative speeds for tws=40kts, is that intentional?
- As of now, it's not possible to have different performance rules for different boats. Click here for details (especially the last couple of pages of that thread). As a result of this, the AC72 will be bound to use the same performance model as every other boat. This means gigantic performance losses due to the gigantic speeds of the "boat" (never really thought the AC72 could be called a boat :)) I (personally) hope that there will we a performance model in which one of two boat-specific parameters can be set for every boat.

Here is a picture of the polar:

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
