Board » Technical Support » Brainaid download applet not showing on Navigation page

Hi, have been reinstalling Chrome etc, but now find the button on the Brainaid Navigation page used to download the NMEA data applet is not showing. I believe I also got a Java update when reinstalling Chrome.

I have run Internet Explorer, but the same issue is apparent.

I kept my old applet (the jnlp file for SWR leg 3) and it still opens and runs okay. It just seems to be the download button which has disappeared.

I did an 'inspect element' search on the Brainaid page and it showed two errors.
1. Uncaught TypeError : deployJava.js:1 undefined is not a function
and 2. Uncaught TypeError : Cannot set property 'launchButtonPNG' of undefined.

All double Dutch to me, but maybe explains something to those who understand.
Thanks
John (Dingo)

No takers? I have the same issue
This may not work for all versions, but if you still have Internet Explorer installed, this may work for you.

Go to brainaid's Sol toolbox and log in as you would normally and go to the Navigation page. Then press F12 (or go to Tools - Development tools menu) to open the, wait for it, Development Tools window. On the Tools window, select the Script tab. In the left-hand column, select and copy (CTRL-C) the 3rd line ("function my_write(t)..."). Make sure you copy the entire line. Now go and paste it in the text field in the lower right-hand corner and click on "Run script" to make the applet appear on the navigation page. (You may have to click "Single line mode" for the text field to appear.)

HTH,
Philip

Thanks Schakel, I have Internet Explorer as well. If I open that, and F12, I get the Toolbox okay, but no tab called Script. If I put the word 'function' in the search box, then I get, under the DOM Explorer tab, a number of tabs at the bottom including script. In there I can see the line: function my_write(t){var c = document.getElementsById

but I don't think I'm in the right location of the Toolbox to either copy or paste this.

Sorry, not used to this type of computer work. :)

cheers
John

Thanks all again, have got a temporary work-around from Kroppyer, but still puzzled as to the root cause of this problem.
The workaround:

Fill in
- your brainaid-token (can be seen in the url when you're logged in at brainaids toolbox: the part after ?sid= is your token),
- the race number (can be seen in the url of the client (windy/run/xxx/), and also in the racedescription (Race #xxx)
- your boatname
in the url below:
sol.brainaid.de/sailonline/
toolbox/NMEAproxy.jnlp?sid=YOURTOKENHERE&
race=RACEID&
boat=BOATNAME&
file=NMEAproxy.jnlp

example:
sol.brainaid.de/sailonline/toolbox/
NMEAproxy.jnlp?sid=d41d8cd98f00b204e980099
8ecf8427e&race=787&boat=kroppyer&file=
NMEAproxy.jnlp

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
