Hi!
For the Sydney - Mooloolaba race I'd like to request that
1. The race area be expanded to 37S
2. The wx area be trimmed in exchange for better resolution. At least to 0.5 degree, maybe .25 if the math works out.
3. Maybe move the start a little outside the harbor. You know it's like 2am outlaw time...
On behalf of SRC Chairman - When the official race was cancelled about 3 weeks ago, SRC reviewed the arrangements for this race and decided to proceed as planned.
It is now too late to amend the Sailing Instructions (<24 hours) but I would be interested to hear why you suggest the race area should be extended South. I am racing North.
As to use of higher Wx resolution, SRC is experimenting with HiRes and this was not a chosen race.
Finally, the exit from Sydney harbour is with a following wind for a leg of about 1.5nm and then the open ocean awaits. Our antipodean colleagues survived the exit from Antwerp at an unfriendly hour on a 5 hour leg just last week for a Championship race and so SRC considers it reasonable that Europe takes its turn with start time inconveniences.
I hope this helps to explain our thoughts and our best wishes for success in the race.
Thank you for your thoughts, always welcome and respected.
Re boundary, I race for the most wind, which clearly calls for south. That said the projected route has shortened since Tuesday so it's less of an issue now. I will probably stay close to the 34th, OTOH I expect someone to set a start DC and hit the boundary before euro daylight.

Re wx, I'm not asking for hi res, just the normal GFS 0.5. I think higher resolution is always better, bandwidth permitting.

Re start, I think it's bad that an open water race can be lost in the first 0.3% of it's distance. I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I skip races if the start is too hard. And to be clear, at this point I enjoy this type of race the most.
To get down to the serious things in SOL (LIFE), how exactly is it pronounced?

moo-loola-BAH ?????????

If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.

So it's cow-toilet-singing-sheep, but the cow says "Mah" or "Muh", not "Moo" :)

Thank you, Kroppy. Now I will not go to my grave mispronouncing Muh-loo-la-BAH......
Just so you know (in case you ever need it), my wife has distant relatives called De'Ath---one of whom is an MD---do not call him DOCTOR DEATH!

Africa by Sea - Abidjan to Swakopmund

Our exploration of Africa by Sea continues. Next, it’s off to Swakopmund, on the water’s edge of the Kalahari desert. It’s a wind-blasted coast, and a venue of choice for those seeking to set wind-powered speed records. More likely than not, we’ll have to beat into it in our Steinlager II, to finally find some shelter behind the walls of Platz am Meer where there is a marina of sorts. Only 2200nm!
