Is there a reason this race is starting at 0500 in the morning? In the interest of getting more sailors would it not be beneficial to start the race later?

I am in Eastern Canada so it is worse for me, as the start is at 2300, so I will not be taking part in the shorter race.

I was just thinking of those in Europe.

Well, we try to alter starting time to be fair to all our sailors around the globe.

In this VOR series we match the start times of the official race. As the boats are currently in Singapore the start time works out to 5 utc in the morning compared to 13:00 local.

As Jakob noted we try to get a good mix of all timezones, but thats not a easy task.
I am a ex-admin of SOL who joins in from time to time.

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!
