Dear Sirs,
How come boats can sail right through the land at 107.75 and 3.00 at one end and 107.28 and 2.99 at the other end.

I altered course to avoid what looks like land,i.e. an island, as I had seen it to late.

Others and lots of them just kept going.
Carnaby Street and Juju_GB are two boats that did that.

Is there an explanation and is okay to do?

As I understand it, it has to do with the interval between updates. Apparently, the boats sort of jump ahead each update. As a result, if the circumstances are just right boats may appear to jump over narrow bits of land.

Yes Schakel is correct there.

Boats jump ahead between updates and each time a boat has jumped a land hit check is done. If you are lucky and clear the land in the mean time, real small stretches of land may be cleared without stopping. You take a risk by doing this, if you do jump at land your boat will stop.

This is done to reduce server loads and most of the time the boats that are jumping are not very active in the race.

Jeroen, is server load or boat activity also the reason that some boats are shown as dots?

If im correct we did that to reduce the clutter of the number of boats we are running now. And might reduce a bit of overhead too.

New Ice Age 2026 - Longyearbyen to Browerville


Although we have by no means exhausted the possibilities of ice boating on lakes at high latitudes or high altitudes, it was noticeable that as our 2025 Series progressed, there were calls from time to time for longer-distance challenges, and so in response to these calls we will pretend that global warming has reversed and as a result the coastal waters of Antarctica and Russia and Canada have fully (and smoothly!) frozen over offering us the possibility of a 4-race New Ice Age series in our trusted no-PL DN machines. Our first leg takes us 2600nm from Svalbard’s Longyearbyen east to North Alaska’s Browerville. You’ll be a few days on the ice, so dress warmly and take some provisions; go!

Cape Town to Rio 2026

Welcome to South Africa and RCYC's classic transatlantic Cape2Rio Race from Cape Town, South Africa, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. First run in 1971, this run is buddied with the IRL, Cape2Rio 2025 arranged by the Royal Cape Yacht Club with the cooperation of the
