Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals » Titicaca Lake

There is probably a long list with race proposals already. But anyway, I think some races on the most famous big navigable lakes in the world would be interesting. Here is my first one. Hope I did it right with the KMZ file. Can be edited where needed, of course.

Looks just great Zorba :-)
Hi Zorba,
We think alike. I have put Isla Del Sol down for a sprint, and would be doing it in Q3 but for the flood of new race inquiries due to the pandemic.

Did one on Lake Victoria, small sprint, but think we should do one that covers all three countries.
Hit Caspian last year too, but can do a longer one, and am eyeing Lake Baikal for an ice boat race next year but can be for others.

So keep proposing them, there are loads of lakes to hit still.

Hi Zorba,
One more thing.
On Lake Titicaca, do you know where the deepest point is? I have been trying to find it but can't seem to put my hands on a good nautical map for the lake.
I have a special race in mind for the lake.

David / Renegade
@Bimmer @Renegade I understand that real race proposal are considered first. Races on lakes can always be considered when there is nothing else. Openseamaps shows several shallow areas in Titicaca. The deepest point is supposedly in the NortEast near Isla Soto (2nd waypoint in my KLM) at 281 meters. See https://www.britannica.com/place/Lake-Titicaca
Baikal lake is one I was also working on. And another one that could be fun is Great Bear Lake In NW territories Canada.

As for Titicaca there is a narrow passage to the SouthEast part of the lake, where there are several small islands. So, it could be made into a longer race, but I wasn't sure if that narrow passage is feasible to include. Can be edited of course :-)
Isla del Sol in Titicaca has a very irregular shape. With properly placed waypoints it could make for a varied sprint race, or a timed race. Winds are supposedly very variable on the lake there. Looking forward to it.
