Board » Practice Racing » KEY LIME Practice Match Racing

Post annotated by RainbowChaser :
This thread was moved from the category Races.
We have a new chart with lots of islands, but little time....

For discussion, and NOT FINAL!

I suggest a first race from the Key Lime Start location to Marathon Key. (24.720n 81.070w)

That is a big target for beaching at night, and provides many short courses for Sunday Monday racing from there.

Provisional start time today 1800z ???

Please post thoughts here, or on an active chat where you see the usual suspects.
OR... just up to Sanibel Island (26.442 / 82.030) ... a distance of 30nm. Current forecast winds are 6-7kts from 130d, so this would be doable in roughly 4hrs or so.
Or around island group at
81.69
25.87

then beach island NE start
81.75
25.98

would be maybe 20nm and very diverse..
ALL SOLERS WELCOME TO JOIN IN!

At 1800utc TODAY there will be a quick practice matchrace:

FROM: the SOL start
TO AND ROUND: island group at 25.87 /81.69 (your choice of rounding)
BACK TO: beach at 25.98 /81.75

THEN

overnight, either cruising together or making your own way, please relocate to to Marathon Key at 24.72 / 81.07 where tomorrow there will be a second practice race!!

My suggestion is the following - due to the possible late arrival of some matchracers at today's start at Marathon Key (24.72 / 81.07) - why not a short run round a couple of the Keys and then back "home".

Start: 1800utc
From: Marathon Key (24.72 / 81.07 )
To and round: island at 24.67 / 81.26
To and round: island at 24.82 / 80.82
Finish: Marathon Key start point.

Distance - v roughly 70nm

I think this takes account of the varying wind?

What do you think please!!
AHOY EVERYONE!!

The second practice matchrace of the Key Lime series will be tonight:

Time: 1800utc
From: 24.72 / 81.07
To and round: island at 24.67 / 81.26
Round: Marathon Key group
Finish: 24.72 / 81.07

N.B. Your choice of left-/right-about the island at 24.67 / 81.26!!

AND

Your choice of round Walker Island or not...

RACING TODAY (thus far) ARE:

africa (CRO)
Bacchus (NED)
crzycanuk (CAN)*
Hutch (GBR)
newsartist (USA)*
NZL Spindrift (NZL)
Rainbow (GBR)
sassy (SWE)*
xrupert (CAN)

* = joining in on the fly!

FIRST ROUNDING - RANKING

By 1945 the first of the fleet were beginning to round the easternmost point of the course at 24.65 / 81.28. These are the rankings at this stage:

1. africa
2. newsartist
3. Spindrift
4. Rainbow
5 Hutch
6. sassy
7. xrupert
8. Bacchus
9. bmd <~~seems to be racing with us!
10. crzycanuk

SECOND ROUNDING - RANKING

1. africa
2. Rainbow
3. Tazumaki
4. newsartist
5. sassy
6. 76T
7. Hutch
8. Bacchus
9. xrupert
10. Hutch
11. crzycanuk
12. BMD

As for Spin, he had to go to sleep so set a DC to run ashore.

MATCHRACERS -- AMENDED FINISH POINT (START POINT FOR TOMORROW)is 24.723 / -81.078.

Suggestion for a Monday race?

1800z Start??? (or 1700?)

-Start at Marathon location (as today's Finish)

-Round Cay ~20mi/9.3 degrees from start

-Round island at 24.88n 80.69w

-Return to start.

This is an ~60 nm course with good forecast wind angles on all legs.
This is my proposition for tomorrow's March 22nd
race.
See att.

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
