Board » Flag Officers » Race proposals » Proposal: Round Funen (Fyn Cup)

The Fyn Cup is held on May 28-30. Over 400 yachts participate making it by far the largest annual sailing event in Denmark.

The Sjaelland Rundt, which used to be the biggest race in Denmark, has dwindled to about a fourth the size of the Fyn Cup.

In the SOL environment the Fyn Cup should prove a demanding 24-36 hour challenge navigating the narrow straits where the vikings learnt to sail.

I am hoping the proposal attached is complete and to your liking.

Hello Mouthansar,

I will take a look at your race proposal this evening as I have no access to Google Earth at the office.

However, 28-30 May will be problematic, as the race committee has already scheduled two other real races around that time: Rund Skagen on 24 May and the Swiftsure on 29 May.

Of course, we can run it at a different time. But in general, I would like to signal that the agenda of real races in Europe and North America is really very crowded from June to September. I expect that the race committee will have to make choices from time to time between 2-3 real races for the same week or week-end.

Regards,

Francois
Hallo Francois
I didn't intend to mark a time preference for the race. Just indicate the actual time of the event.

Personally I would prefer any other date, since I will be participating in the real race :-)

With your approval I will write to the Fyn Cup organizers about SOL/Fyn Cup and hope to attract some more Danish sailors.
Ooops. Wrong login. That would be me above.
Took a look at your race. No problem.

I was thinking of organizing it as a week race on 18 May 2010. What do you think?
I think: "Superb"! Excellent preparation for all the Danish sailors I would hope to attract to SOL ... and myself.

Please inform me if and when the date is set, so I may advertise it.

For the sake of good order let me add that I have absolutely no affiliation with the real race or the organizers.
As a veteran in the real race, I'm very much looking forward to participating in the SOL Funen Cup Race ....

Count me in :-)
I can confirm that the race has been included in the schedule for 18 May 2010 at 17:00 UTC

Tasmania to Kamchatka 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. Tasmania to Kamchatka, part of our Ocean Championship and also the third leg of the ROW (Round the Old World) series. Be aware of the obstacles on the way, likely to split the fleet. It's like X:mas to X:mas, crossing the same waters, navigating the same archipelagos. This second race of OCQ2 2026 will be sailed in our revised 'version 2' Imoca 60 Foil. Race #2031
