For those who may need it.

http://tinyurl.com/2u3op4o

For Windows (works on some Linux systems under Wine). Wrote it this evening after reading some comments on the chat. This is the only manual:

Enter the date and UTC time at which the delayed command is to be executed and press the 'Calculate delay' or 'Enter' button.
Enter the 'Delay' value in the SOL clients dc box, check the mark and hit SEND. Time is calculated from the moment you hit 'Calculate delay', so lower the value slightly to allow for the seconds it takes to enter and send the dc.

Time and date can be entered using numeric keypad with the decimal point key as the hh:mm:ss and dd-mm-yy separator. Also, values can be altered using arrow up and down. Use left and right arrow keys to navigate within the time and date fields. Use tab to navigate between fields and buttons.

Until now untested in time zones out of Europe. Disclaimers apply.

Have fun.
Philip
Philip - this is really excellent! I was a little confused at first because the program opens by showing my computer-clock time but now I know to just ignore that and input the SOL date/time I need, the result is spot on!!

As I said in chat.. you are clever!!

Thank you for creating and sharing this.. I am sure many will find it very useful indeed (even those who now use calculator or pen/paper)!!
Excellent. Thanks very much for this. Works in Southern hemisphere - just have to remember to enter the time value as UTC. Top bloke.
Updated version available at the same link:

Have fun.

Updates faster than you can say "There's Klingons on the starboard bow." The same link still works, even though it is now a zip file:

Notes: Polars courtesy of brainaid. Unzip the archive keeping folder structure intact. All polars must be located in a directory called "Polars" and this directory must be a subdirectory of the directory in which the executable is stored.

How to obtain new polars suitable for this tool: Go to

http://sol.brainaid.de

and click on "Toolbox". Select a race in which you have already registered (important) and log in using your boat name and password (or try as sol). Click on the Polar button and on the next page click on "Detailed data as CSV". Save in Polar directory described above and you're good to go.

This version will only show boat speed after selecting a polar and entering true wind speed, direction and course. You can image that a lot more is possible, like vmg and vmc. Maybe next time.

As always, disclaimers apply.

Cheers,
Philip
Hi Philip,

The link doesnt appear to be working anymore. I have an earlier version but cant get into the latest file.

Cheers Undercover
Hi UC,

The link ought to be working again, now. If ot doesn't, just let me know and I'll create another one.

Cheers,
Philip
Schakel - I only use your calculator to work out time for DCs and its been very helpful... I would simply add a rider that the time given by the calculator needs to have 0.010-0.015 deducted before input to SOL to allow for the delay in commands executing in the SOL server!

I used it for my practice race start last night and... after only three attempts got myself a start at 20:00:00 exactly for almost the first time ever hehehe

Cheers Philip all good now :)

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
