I would like to support the SYC but I don´t think it is fair to give the members an advantage of priority in the server to get faster updates etc.
Could you explain the idea of why paying for such an advantage should be feasible?

Hi. First of all I have to emphasize that priority on the server does not mean faster boat. No speed gains are available for members. However, there are quite a lot of costs associated with operating the sailonline simulator. Costs that we in the long run have to cover. Introducing a yacht club is the way we choose, and rather than only letting members sail we allow everybody to sail but we must naturally prioritize paying members. The effect of this priority is that member-boats will react more often. That can hardly be regarded as unfair? If you still disagree, please develop your thoughts in tis thread.

I have already experienced a delay, as I earlier wrote to you, after ordering a change of course it takes some time before it is executed by the server. If this would be speeded up by paying to join the SYC I mean this benefit is not fair to the other saylors. And of course I don´t argue against that you take out some money for developing this fascinating tool to let us practice sailing. I have not learnt so much about sailing in my whole life as since I started to use sailonline.se.
Hey Dagge, that is just how the program works!
I mean, this is not 100% real-time, online, but more a strategy game.
The boats are updated normally about every 15 sec. Such a delay in a 5-day game is certainly not unfair?
Laiska,
Of course it is unfair if the SYC members, just by beeing members, get faster actual excecution time after a command than non members.
Heh, maybe this should be put into perspective... you are not actually steering the boat or anything, rather "piloting".
I would be perfectly happy to give my possible "unfair update rate frequency advantage" to you dagge, and then we would see what happens. In fact, a slower response would perhaps have saved some unpleasant plus/minus error jibes & tacks, and miles lost...
;-)
Also, Dagge, we need people to join SYC. If you regard the update interval as a benefit, why don´t join SYC? We will soon release other benefits for members too.

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.
NOTE: Starts and Finishes in tall ships racing are always offshore to avoid conflict with shipping and shipping lanes; online and real-life may not match exactly.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
