Sorry, but I quote:- Missing a Mark: Like in real life, if you start from the Gun in a practice race and miss a mark then to get a final ranking in the race you must return to the mark and round it correctly. If you don't wish to do this you are welcome to continue to race but your ranking will drop to last.

This is from the Practice Racing rules in this forum.

As far as I am concerned this is ended. There is no more left to say.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Rod: My nit-picking wasn't meant toward anyone special, but i must admit that there is Kind of a fit with you. ;-)
Nevertheless, nit-picking wasn't meant offensive, the german Translation 'kleinlich' is not that harsh and normaly used with a grin.

On the other Hand, we are neither in Radiosailing, nor in real sailing here. So the RSS are not in Charge here. Allthough it is nice to stay close to them, they are not allways usefull for virtual sailing.

In our special case we are racing for the purpose of learning first and only second for Ranking, if at all. Because of the very short duration, you need to stay close to each other, to messure your efforts. So demanding to go back all the way to the mark, just because it's in the RRS, will ruin our primary goal.
Surely that is adequately looked after in the sentence
"round it correctly. If you don't wish to do this you are welcome to continue to race but your ranking will drop to last."
I realize the RRS do not directly apply, but if the above does not, then what does? Just how closely do you need to "miss" the mark to be counted as having rounded it? I do not mean to "nit-pick" or to be a "sea lawyer". I had only assumed that "any sailor" would welcome a warning that he/she had not rounded a mark.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!
