Hi guys!

Every progress has a price! I like the changes very much but...

Is it my imagionation or does the new interface download more data each time it updates boat positions? I have noticed a threefold increase of data usage at my end.

Three times the data = three times the cost of sailing!

Alternatively a third of the time I can spend on line :(

So, for now, I sail very seldom.

Question: Is this optional or can it be switched off?

Regards
George
There has been no change to the amount of data downloaded by client, except that now the DC list refreshes on startup, and then every 30 minutes, but this is only 1 or 2 Kbytes every hour (at most - even many DCs would be perhps 5Kb), so there is likely something else running that is eating your data up ;-)
I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__
Thanks for the prompt response. Ill check it out when I get home from work
Thanks for all the help trying to get the new interface working for me.I tried everything and it still wouldn't work, so I gave up and just started using firefox.Logged on with IE this morning by mistake and, like magic the new interface is working on there!!!. :-)
Great news Sally, I still suspect a somthing was storred outside your computer to reduce traffic load. As you seem to be on the Virgin Islands the bandwith could be highly "optimized", over time these stored data get refreshed.
Now you can use Sol on both again, so no need to force a browser choice by Sol :)

I absolutely love the changes you guys have made recently, particularly the no-click zoom amd the new improved polars. Good on you Solgods
The awful wind sound is still there. Do we need this really?
I have always SOL-clients running in the background, we have 1-3 races at a time with different wx-times, so I hear this "gaming indicator" 3 to 9 times a day (always missing a wx at night). Will we have wave sounds in future too?

Please stop it
Bernd
Hi Bernd,

I agree with you on the sound in a work enviroment so we are certainly looking for a way to switch this on and off in the next version. If there is a way to block the current sound I will get back to you.

Bernd: simply switch off your speakers when you're working hahaha

I do it several times before I round an island, so 154 steps are too many I think.
ALL the way out?? Really? may I ask why...?

Hi Aaron! Sorry for late reply. No, I zoom in from normal overview to full zoom in and back several times before an important move. I have not counted that number of zoom steps, but I can do it if you wish (Done and it is aprox 100-110 steps). Yes, you may ask way. But as I don´t know how to sail on top level and don´t use softs I need some aces in my sleave, so I keep it for my self. ;)

Red Eye - Melville Island PYOC 2026

Melville Island is the largest of the Tivi group opposite the port of Darwin in the Timor Sea. Tropically forested and thinly populated, not a lot goes on there, but let’s race around it anyway, lar- or starboard round, it’s a little more than 120nm, so, no matter where you are navigating from on the planet, you will be hard-pressed to complete the course aboard your J-80 in daylight hours!

The third race of our series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones takes us southeastward now down the Pacific, from Guam’s Apra Harbour at 13.5 degrees North, back across the Equator to the glorious New Caledonian resort island of Ouvéa, on the edge of the Tropic of Capricorn at 20.5 degrees South. It’s 2400nm, and there’s more than a few other islands in the way, so mind where you go in your Ocean 50s. Race #1981

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
