I'm sure by now we have all heard the terrible news from Norway. It's hard to imagine something like that happening anywhere, least of all such a peace loving nation.

When I fell asleep the news was reporting 8 people dead, by the time I awoke just a few hours later I was shocked to discover that figure had risen to 95 confirmed dead between the two incidents.

As a new member of SOL I don't know whether it is too off topic or within the ethos of this great gathering of like minded people from around the world, but among our members are many Norwegians, great characters and sailors all, and I can only begin to imagine the shock with which they are watching these events unfold in their own media.

Perish the thought that they have friends or family involved in this tragedy.

So if the Sol gods agree it's appropriate, a small message of solidarity, from us, to all who proudly fly the Norwegian flag, here and beyond.

Our thoughts are with you.
