We already have an ocean race pre-Christmas so we need a date in Jan/Feb (or end Dec).. there's got to be one!

I think long ocean races are good in Dec/Jan - folks are on Christma/New Year / ski/other vacations so a long race keeps folks in touch :-)

Would this be longer than any previous races here?
I'd be up for the slog!
Here is Bligh leg 2 from Timor to Jakarta.

Here is the first leg of the mutineers, which was from Tonga to French Polynesia. I've suggested using Steinlager II as a modern boat a similar length to the HMS Bounty.

2nd Fletcher leg, a short hop.

Fletcher leg 3, a tour of the Pacific.

Given the recent loss of the vessel and some crew, would suggest making this a memorial race, something like the A3. Perhaps, after the appropriate interval, even contact the Tall Ship Bounty organization(www.tallshipbounty.org) and ask if a memorial race would be of interest to bring together the organization as a way of remembering the vessel and crew? Would cite our ongoing relationship with other Tall Ship organizations. Their website has been suspended at the moment but there may be others ways of contacting them in the future.

Suggest getting a polar for the Bounty herself instead of a modern platform.

Just a thought.

SP
Good idea SP. Might be worth adding more legs to include the passage from the UK out to the Pacific.
I feel such action would be ill advised, seeing as they have taken down their website and we have no connection to any of the individuals involved. Just saying keep the original historical perspective.

Sailonline’s 15th Birthday Balloon Race
Sailonline offers a huge variety of boats to sail in. One of the more unusual ones has got to be SOL's Balloon, which was polarized by past SOLmaster 76Trombones. Notably, the SOL Balloon will actually ‘sail’ in other directions other than straight downwind, although it will not 'sail' over land or beyond a 'beam reach'. Like in 2013 and 2018, we will be taking the Balloon across the Atlantic from St. John's and 'land' it in the sea off the Cliffs of Moher.
