    You're Right :)

    & 'F' stands for Fumes
Oh? I thought it meant something else! Like in "Oh f... - forgot to fill!"

BTW, I have tried uploading an avatar, how long does it take to appear by my posts?

    Doesn't "E" mean "enough"?

Thanks for your help. Perhaps I should have worded my Q differently: Is the distance to go shown by the game calculated along the great circle, or does it assume a flat ocean? I infer from your answer however that it must be the great circle distance. Thanks again.

Forgive me if this subject is covered elsewhere, but does the game take into account that the shortest route over longer distances is a Great Circle? Or do the game maps not account for this?

Son's computer seems to have been hit with a trojan infostealer. Computer was frozen from yesterday afternoon to this morning. Have been busy trying to sort that one out all today. Just tried SOL again on my XP machine & BINGO, voila, eureka, whatever - it worked, weather downloaded, chart is up, going to check it out now.

Hi Rainbow Chaser, I updated Java to v6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02) yesterday. I believe I now have latest everything. Hope to try connecting later on another Vista computer with cable connection to the router.

Tried IE8 on the XP machine last night with same result.

Captjack I am in Barbados. I am also using a wireless home network router. I tried your suggestion to disable, re-enable & reconnect but it has made no difference. I will try to connect on another Vista machine with cable connection to the router and let you know if it works. If it is worth anything, I have been playing on the VirtualRegatta.com site for the last year with no connection problems.

Update: I have updated Java to v6 update 20 (build 1.6.0_20-b02). Shut down computer & restarted. Reloaded game and same thing: stuck at "Waiting for weather download...". Only thing left is to try other computer which my son is hogging. Will have to wait till he goes to bed.

You need flash player 9 or higher. Other than that, if you are using internet explorer, try Firefox instead (or Chrome or Safari).
Thanks for trying to help. See my first post: Windows XP Home 2002 SP3, Firefox 3.6.3, Adobe Flash 10,1,53,64; 1 Mb/s connection

No corporate or other proxy. Java usually updates automatically. How can I check if it needs to be updated now?
