	There's a thread proposing to sail the longest straight line on the sea in an AC72, also fast. I like the idea, though there are probably two problems: - polar needs to be made, which could be a lot of work - the performanceloss would be gigantic (tacking at 70kts results in 55.6nm distance lost), and there are tricks to reduce it. After one tack, there could very well be a gap of over 50nm between those who know the trick and those who don't. The polar problem is the same for the other race, but the performance issue is not as huge (the maximum distance lost is "only" 7nm)

	Ice boats would be very suitable for this weekend's Kallavesj-race. Weather forecast for the weekend is around -10 Celsius, light snow. Ice thickness is currently 20-40 cm. My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I'm right.

	Speed is not the be-all of sailing. Ice boats could be very interesting on a very windy course of a frozen lake, but not on a frozen ocean in a round-the-world race. If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.

Regata dell’Accademia Navale 2026

Welcome to Sailonline’s partnership with the City of Livorno (Leghorn say the English) in cooperation with the local yacht clubs and the Italian Navy, offering all the online opportunity to race the famous Regata dell’Accademia Navale - 630nm in length. Starting and finishing in Livorno, this year the race takes you the length and breadth of the Tyrrhenian Sea via little Mortorio (Mortoriotto) off Sardinia to Capri and home again to Livorno. This race also counts towards Sailonline’s Magical Mediterranean Series and the SuperBuddy title. Online, you will be sailing a Mini 6.50, to give you a match against several of the real-life entrants, which you will be able to track on-screen!

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

Falklands to Tasmania 2026
