Board » Technical Support » Waiting for weather download

Anyone else get this message when loading the "race" screen? I get it on IE9 and chrome, and it basically means I have no weather. Not fast.

I've cleared all my caches, but still nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Slow ISP connection is most likely the cause. Like if you are on the edge of a mobile cell with a 3G or 4G modem. Or your cable connection node is loaded by some kid torrenting movies. Or Maybe the undersea cable to Bermuda is too crowded.
The NY/SF weather update is a huge file. It takes a while (like some times a couple of minutes on DSL, or in A2R's case on Dialup, up to 10 minutes) to load. For me on my 3G connection on the boat, it can take 30~40 seconds to load.

If it hangs up for more than 4~5 minutes, I've found that just reloading the page usually works.
Cheers Jack, that was what I also thought. Looks like I may have to kiss this game goodbye until Bermuda gets into the 21st century.
Just wanted to chime in regarding the Wx file for this race which is listed in my Safari browser's activity window @ 5.2 Mb & it takes my dial-up connection approx. 15-18 minutes to complete on a good day with no other processes competing for bandwidth.

That being said there are existing client issues already under discussion in the Technical Forum where this can also be a symptom of those problems.

The first condition requires patience while the second can only be resolved with a proactive procedure.
None so blind
Baggus - or just keep an eye out for the non-giant races which is what SOL races most of the time.. you can pick to sail in weekend or week series rather than the ocean ones maybe?

You can't not sail on SOL!! :-)

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.
NOTE: Starts and Finishes in tall ships racing are always offshore to avoid conflict with shipping and shipping lanes; online and real-life may not match exactly.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
