This is completely crazy ... it is really hard on my eyes and no longer comfortable to play.

If you are trying to mimic real racing then it will not work for the following reasons ...

- On the water you would not see the lights of the other boats so why represent it that way.

- You would be following the weather and positions on the nav screen, and that would not be in night and day format?

This is a weather routing game, as if you were sat at a boats nav station. If it was supposed to be a fully realistic game it would be in 3D, and you would only see the boats close to you! Plus you would then have a nav console like on a real boats ... oh, isn't that what we have before?

Please be really careful you do not take away from the simple format that makes SailOnline fun for everyone.

Thanks.

Richard
I agree, can't see wind, boat, shrore. In real world you have the sound that help alot to anderstand in the dark. The black backgroud is terribly wrong, It's just after lunch in montreal.
I forgot to say that green visible numbers, ws, twa,...,should stay. Keep it clear, it's best desing
please make the night colours optional - I hate them. The port and starboard lights look like an old CRT monitor which is failing
It needs to be based upon WHERE the boats are sailing, NOT on the settings of each individuals PC, for local time zones.

Cuttently I'm at 62E is 4 x 15 degrees E of Long0.00 degtees = GMT/UTC => 4 hours before.
UTC shows 06:27 so local time is 10:27 mid morning for my boat.

BUT my screen is black -> it is wrong. Should be mid morning.

By Contrast:
If it is my computer clock, it is most strange as the sun has not even set yet UTC+13 here in NZ.

It is almost 1 month before our longest day and the "night" in only about 8 hours long, but need to check my almanac for exact time. I hope my SoL night is NOT a European 14 hours long!!!!

If it breaks, it's not strong enough!
LIGHTS at night.

The red & green do look "pretty" and well done, but that is not what you would see IRL. All boats on my port (left) will be GREEN STARBOARD sidelights, whilst those on my starboard (right) will be seen only as RED PORT sidelights and the ones ahead, I should only see their WHITE STERNLIGHTS.

So if that is to happen, will the International Collision Prevention Rules apply?

There may need to be a safety zone around each boat and a performance drop for collisons.

Otherwise it's all just "pretty" but VERY clever lights.

Going for IMPACT???? BANG, What a colision; both down to 50%?? Performance.

might have to have a COLLISION FREE 24 HOURS after starts of these offshore races for practical purposes.

Hi, I think the Night Zone is just great, and adds to the fun factor of the game.

But you could easily have it as an option (that I would choose to have on :-).
Yes happy with the "fun" factor, especially with a race around the world.

However if it was only Swedish or European races, sailing always with a night-time black screen for us Kiwis (NZL UTC +13) would get boring and would be unfair!

See RRS Rule 2!!! I rest my case!
If it breaks, it's not strong enough!
Actually, I would think the day/night feature should absolutely follow the boat position sun azimuth, not the computer clock!
..maybe we should have fog on the screen too... and snow and rain. ;-)

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
