Board » Technical Support » QtVlm router and Brainaid's NMEA proxy

Page: 1 2 Next

Hi, I have been browsing this forum and Google for assistance in connecting Brainaid's NWEA proxy to the QtVlm router but have not found any relevant information.

Has anyone managed to achieve this, and would they be prepared to share the info?

many thanks

John

John, have you looked at Aaron's stuff.

Phillip (Shackel) had some really good stuff on his site. But for some reason the page is now password protected. Still looking for his email.

So far found this (which has some other good info): http://sailonline.org/community/profile/7407/

Morning Jack, and others. After some assistance from Dikkehenk and Go4iT and a bit of playing around on my own, I found a work around. My main problem seemed to be caused by being on a 64 bit system.

In principle:
1. Start up brainaid's proxy, which runs quite happily on my 64 bit Windows 7 with Java 7. Others have had to revert to Java 6 I know.
2. Install NavmonPC and set the File>Connections to virtual ports A,B,C, using port COM5. Check that data is coming through okay, using the 'Monitor' button.
3. Install Franson GPSGate 2.6 and Franson SerialTools Run Time.
4. Start up QT. Under Boat>Settings, enter Serial Port as COM5. Under Options>Settings>gps, enter COM5 as the serial port.
5. Click 'Start GPS' on the left hand side of the QT window.
cheers
John
SW Please provide more details of your set up to my email as new laptop is proving a problem.
All solved with the assistance of IT literate daughter. Won't stop me bbqing!
Good to hear! For the benefit of others reading this thread, I can no longer, since last month, log in the brainaid NMEA proxy whilst using Windows 7 and Java 7.

Perhaps sometime one day, it will possible to do this again if it is updated.
I have used Java 6 with Brainaid for some time, I just have to remember not to let Windows update me!
Yes, that's right, but I have concerns about computer security using old versions of Java, so I don't.
Hi all,

I have fixed a problem with Cookie management inside the NMEAproxy, this should work with Java 7 now. You will still get a warning about unknown publisher, as I do not have an officially signed certificate...

Please re-test with Java 7 and report your success or failure. Thanks a lot!

Cheers,
Eddie

The sea is lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to sail before I sleep, And miles to sail before I sleep.
Eddie, heartfelt thanks...all working well, and nice to have Java 7 running on the computer again.
cheers
John

Quiberon Islands 2026

The Quiberon peninsula extends as a submerged granite ridge a further 15nm or so beyond the La Teignouse lighthouse on the rocks off its southern tip, surfacing as two small islands, Houat and Hoedic, the duck and duckling in Breton, 5nm and 10nm beyond the light. Treacherous, tidal waters, but on SOL that daunts us not. Of course, we've raced here before, mostly Timed Runs out of Quiberon around Belle Ile, just south of the islets, and back, but this time it's a sprint from Belle Ile's capital of Port Marie round the foul fowl and back. A triangular course of 22nm, appropriately enough for Moody S38.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
