With the new server also the forum software was upgraded and this allowed us to do some changes how the privacy was handled in the forums.

Previously the forum exposed user's name and email addresses if you left the "Display name" or "Public email address" fields empty in the profile settings. Some people didn't find out how to hide their name or email this way so we have many who don't have valid email address or name in our user base.

With the new server, the forum has following privacy changes:

- The real email address is never exposed, if you want an email address to be showed to everyone set it to the "Public email address".

- Instead of names, usernames (i.e. boat names) are showed by default. After all that is the way people usually know each others here. If you have "Display name" set then it is showed instead of username.

Now with these changes, I would recommend everyone to update their user information (Edit profile in the left column) if you don't happen have your real name or email there already. Remember that with an invalid email address you can't recover a lost password.

My recommendation is also to either leave the "Display name" empty or if you want to use some special name in forums, it would also include your username in some way. That way people could more easily identify forum users to the right boats, especially as we are using usernames in chats it would be more clear that way.

Regata dell’Accademia Navale 2026

Welcome to Sailonline’s partnership with the City of Livorno (Leghorn say the English) in cooperation with the local yacht clubs and the Italian Navy, offering all the online opportunity to race the famous Regata dell’Accademia Navale - 630nm in length. Starting and finishing in Livorno, this year the race takes you the length and breadth of the Tyrrhenian Sea via little Mortorio (Mortoriotto) off Sardinia to Capri and home again to Livorno. This race also counts towards Sailonline’s Magical Mediterranean Series and the SuperBuddy title. Online, you will be sailing a Mini 6.50, to give you a match against several of the real-life entrants, which you will be able to track on-screen!

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara


Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!

Falklands to Tasmania 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. This next race is part of our Ocean Championship as well as the ROW series. Falklands to Tasmania, is like last year's island to island. It’s one of the longer ones 6400nm, more than half way around the world (and the Antarctica). It starts the 2026 OCQ2, and will be sailed in our Steinlager 2, contrary to prior notice.
