Hi
I might be wrong on the matter, but it appears that http compression is not enabled for the weather.xml ? Why?

Would a change make higher resolution weather practical?

agree..even if gzip deflate is lousy it will save more or less 50% of the size, so doubling the resolution will result in a X" and not a X4 size to be transferred.

I made a quick evaluation. Actual wx data, if compressed, should be around 300k. Going on a 2x2 grid should yield a 1.2Mb file which is perfectly suitable, even a 1x1 grid would result in a 5Mb wx file which is not big at all.

I've downloaded the new WF grib (15.May.2014, 10:30 hrs UTC) for the RTW4 and inserted it on qtVlm. Is showing tiny parallel strips of incongruent Wind data!?

Camel or Balloon - Khartoum to N'Djamena


As there is a lull in the calendar, your PRO has decided to risk an experiment – a balloon race over land, using a workaround to eliminate the recognition of water/land transitions. If it fails, the server may crash, and we abandon PDQ, hopefully after leg 7 of the ABS race to Suez has been decided, and before the start of the 1st OCC of Q4. Camel or Balloon – c 1000 nm from a field on the north bank of the Blue Nile at Khartoum to a field on the north bank of the Chari River at N'Djamena!
