Board » Technical Support » qtVlm & brainaids NMEA proxy

Hi,

I´ve been trying to load boats data and position into qtVLM using the brainaid proxy ( http://sol.brainaid.de/sailonline/toolbox/NMEAproxy.jnlp?race=1025&boat=47box).
The procedures I did was:
1)Load the braiaid NMEA proxy (that was "ok").
2)Into qtVlm I went to "VLM mode".
3)qtVlm > Configuration > ...
> "Conecting using a proxy".
>Proxy type: "System default proxy"
>Proxy Server (from brainaid toolbox): http://sol.brainaid.de/sailonline/toolbox/NMEAproxy.jnlp?race=1025&boat=47box
>Port Number: 5010
> User & Password as required.

After these settings I restart the qtVlm and look like the conection has been established.

I could not see after established the connection, the boats and datas inside the MAP.

Is it possible to have boats visualisation online on qtVLM? Someone can help the procedure or point me somewhere to have the info? Thank you.

I think the wording 'brainaid NMEA proxy" is misleading. In fact it's a tcp server.

You should not enter this settings into qtVlm proxy settings, but in NMEA->tcp server settings.
Hi maitai,

I change from "VLM mode" to "Real Mode" and set the NMEA>TCP Server settings. I did not get the instruments working, and boat online position as well.
I got some infomations from this website:

https://daysailer.wordpress.com/2016/01/03/how-to-connect-qtvlm-and-bluewater-racing-to-the-nmea-proxy/

but look like it´s not more applicable.
I saw some pictures from other Sailor using GPS into the qtVlm and it was looking like running well.

I´ll keeping trying.
Any other help will be apreciate. Thkans
Hi maitai,

I got it working. I did not start NMEA into qtVlm at the first time.
After start it everything went well.

Thanks.

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!

Tasmania to Kamchatka 2026

Welcome to yet another all-new route. Tasmania to Kamchatka, part of our Ocean Championship and also the third leg of the ROW (Round the Old World) series. Be aware of the obstacles on the way, likely to split the fleet. It's like X:mas to X:mas, crossing the same waters, navigating the same archipelagos. This second race of OCQ2 2026 will be sailed in our revised 'version 2' Imoca 60 Foil. Race #2031
