Leg 5 OCEAN RACE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
Quingdao to Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

RACE AREA: Yellow Sea, Pacific Ocean, Southern Ocean, South Atlantic Ocean..

BOATS: Volvo 70 Class only.

START: Saturday 14th February 05:00 UTC (13:00 Quingdao Local time).
The starting line is between the orange flag on the Race Committee Vessel at the starboard end and a black and white with an orange top Volvo mark 36.03N 120.32W.

COURSE:
The legendary Cape Horn to Port,

FINISH: The 2.0Nm finish line will be between two Volvo marks black and white with an orange top buoys 22.86S 43.17W and 22.87S 43.13W approximately bearing 117 / 297 degrees, 5.0Nm from both shores at the harbour entrance to Rio de Janerio, heading towards the Sugar Loaf mountain.

Distance 12,300 Nm approximately


NAVIGATION LIGHTS
Boats shall exhibit navigation lights between sunset and sunrise. (VOR Rule 12)

CAUTIONS:
All mark positions given are approximate and in the format displayed by race client program.

Correct large scale charts must be used.
There are no special fairway marks or obstructions.

MOORINGS:
After clearing Brazilian Customs and Immigration, yachts are advised to proceeded to Baia de Guanabera, west of Sugar Loaf and anchor off the Iate Clube de Rio de Janerio (Yacht Club). The Iate Clube operates several passenger boats to ferry crews to and from the main landing dock at the centre of the Iate Clube

PRIZES:
Mount Gay Rum for first “Kiwi” yacht to finish.
Other prizes may be announced.

PRIZE GIVING: The day after 60% of the fleet have arrived, but will be subject to confirmation.

This month’s TIMED race takes us to the shallow waters of Palk Bay located between India and Sri Lanka. Sail the impressive MC 38 around a roughly 140 nm course through two narrow channels before returning to the start/finish line in Jaffna.
This is a TIMEDrace so you may RE-REGISTER HEREto try again after finishing a run. You will have two weeks to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.
