You can go any way you like but if you read the sailing Instructions for this race, you will see that the course is:

"The legendary Cape Horn to PORT"

So as long as you do this, you are OK.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough!

Not only as Paul says - the map will not operate very far to the North - your boat would just stop at the game boundary where the wind display ends or before it.

Hi Paul - In the Hobart practice I had a chat about that as I inadvertently sailed to the edge, where the edge was before the end of the wind display - see http://www.sailonline.org/board/thread/1264/?page=1#post-1264 That was when I was even more of a beginner than I am now!
